TRAINING OF FRONTLINE HEALTH WORKERS ON KEY
NUTRITION SERVICES DELIVERY PATHWAYS
Founded in 1945 with the creation of the CARE Package, CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. With the recognition that, when equipped with the proper resources, women and girls have the power to lift whole families and entire communities out of poverty, CARE places special focus on women and girls while working alongside men and boys. This year, CARE and partners have worked in 121 countries, reaching 53 million people around the world through 1,450 poverty-fighting development and humanitarian aid programs. CARE was officially registered in Nigeria with the CAC and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2017. Since 2017, CARE has reached over 2.5 million people across its implementing States as of 2023. In its seventh year of operation in Nigeria, CARE works predominantly in the conflict-affected Northeast, and Northwest regions of the country working around key thematic areas of Food Security & Livelihood (FSL); Right to Health & Nutrition (HER); Humanitarian Preparedness & Response; Gender Justice and Protection (Prevention and Response to Violence Against Women and Girls); and Women Economic Justice (WEJ) through its Flagship ‘Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) approach as well mainstream peacebuilding.
The 4.5-year Catalyzing Strengthened policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience (CASCADE) project is being implemented by CARE and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). By prioritizing the essential nutrition services pathway, CASCADE will work with national and local governments to implement the Nutrition policy and develop a multi-stakeholder strategic implementation plan through which government actors can coordinate to better contextualize national food and nutrition policies. The programme will work with governments and their technical committees to improve the quality of nutrition programmes and strategies, supporting the organization of forums and policy dialogues to advocate for increased investment in nutrition policy implementation. The programme will strengthen the capacity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to supply nutritional services, including fortified products.
